·       What is ADA and ADA AA and M-WIN? I get confused by the “alphabet soup. “

o   What is ‘people first’ language?

§  I’m struggling to pay for school because a disability forced me to change jobs.

·       I have a disability. Now what?

o   I have a learning disability. How can I get help with classes?

·       What does reasonable accommodation mean?

o   A friend’s child has a disability.

§  How do I act around my friends who use a wheel chair or have a mental illness? 

·       Should I open the door for someone or wait until they ask?

·       I’m an employee at BSC. What do I need to know about disabilities?

o   What are my risks for AIDS?

§  Is it OK to use the accessible stall in the restroom if you do not have a disability?

·       Are there things I can do to help?

To find out the answers to these and many other questions, drop by during the Disability Awareness Day Tuesday October 21st between 10am and 1:30pm in the student center. There will be handouts, posters, first-person answers, candy, and door prizes.

The Blue Wave Café will be open from 10:30 to 1 as usual, so grab an affordable lunch and explore disability issues…and more importantly…the world of the differently-abled.
